First Wave Start Time: 08.00hr

Tweed Triathlon Club, based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, representing triathlon and fitness enthusiasts across north Northumberland and the eastern Scottish Borders are hosting their third triathlon event. The lower reaches of the Tweed provide an impressive back drop for this annual event. Berwick’s unique and historic environment, spanning both sides of the border, is a great place to explore by bike and the nature of the border crossings along the bike route and the run route along the town’s old walls and bridges create a memorable platform for the event.

2018 Team Event
The usual Borders and Bridges Trophy will be awarded to the fastest club over the Borders and Bridges course, based on the cumulative time of the first 3 individual finishers from that club. Your club name must be clearly indicated in your on-line entry.
2018 Relay Event
The Relay team can be made up from either 2 or 3 individuals who share the single triathlon (swim/bike/run) between them by passing the timing-chip as the ‘relay baton’. Please note that there is an additional fee of £5 per extra person to cover their race-day insurance which will be collected at registration on the day of the race. The (name/address/contact) details of the extra individuals will also be handled at this time. To enter, follow the same on-line entry procedure as the other full entrants, except when the form asks for your ‘Club’ you should type in “Relay – ” followed by your chosen Relay-team name. The expected swim time for the 500m pool swim should be that of your chosen swimmer (who might not be the same as the person filling in the on-line entry form).

The Swan Leisure Centre indoor swimming pool, Berwick-upon-Tweed, is the venue for the swim. Starting order will be dictated in waves based on submitted ‘estimated swim times’ for the 500m distance. Each wave sets off about 20 minutes apart and comprises 20-25 individuals spread across 5 separate lanes.
The transition area between swim-and-bike (T1) and bike-and-run (T2) is in the same place and is sited in the car park adjacent to the pool.
After the swim and passing through T1, the bike route is a single loop taking in 3 bridges and 2 border crossings before heading back to the Swan Centre for T2.
The single loop run takes you through Tweedmouth and along to the docks, crossing the Tweed at the Old Bridge, yielding great views of the iconic Royal Border Bridge and the famous River Tweed below. From here the run takes you onto the medieval ramparts for an anti-clockwise circuit around the Berwick Walls then re-crossing the Berwick Old Bridge before heading back to the Swan Centre and the finish line. Note that the last 1km follows a different route to that used on the first 1km.

Timing for the event is chip based and individual/relay results will be available immediately after you finish from the ‘Timing Van’. Further results will be available for the presentation ceremony and full results will be posted online subsequently.
