Tweed Triathlon Club, based in Berwick-upon-Tweed, representing triathlon and fitness enthusiasts across north Northumberland and the eastern Scottish Borders are hosting their third triathlon event.

The lower reaches of the Tweed provide an impressive back drop for this new event. Berwick’s unique and historic environment, spanning both sides of the border, is a great place to explore by bike and the nature of the border crossings along the bike and run routes create a memorable platform for the event.

2017

NEWS: In additional to the usual individual awards and the trophy for the fastest ‘Club’, 2017 brings the introduction of a ‘Relay’ award.

The Relay team can be made up from either 2 or 3 individuals who share the single triathlon (swim/bike/run) between them by passing the timing-chip as the ‘relay baton’. Please note that there is an additional fee of £5 per extra person to cover their race-day insurance which will be collected at registration on the day of the race. The (name/address/contact) details of the extra individuals will also be handled at this time. To enter, follow the same on-line entry procedure as the other full entrants, except when the form asks for your ‘Club’ you should type in “Relay – ” followed by your chosen Relay-team name. The expected swim time for the 500m pool swim should be that of your chosen swimmer (who might not be the same as the person filling in the on-line entry form).

The Swim

The Swan Leisure Centre swimming pool, Berwick-upon-Tweed, is the venue for the swim. Starting order will be dictated in waves based on submitted ‘estimated swim times’ for that distance.

The Bike

The bike route is a single loop, taking in 3 bridges and 2 border crossings before heading back to the Swan Centre for T2.

The Run

The single loop run takes you through Tweedmouth and along to the docks, crossing the Tweed at the Old Bridge, yielding great views of the iconic Royal Border Bridge and the famous River Tweed below. From here the run takes you on to the medieval ramparts for a circuit around the Berwick Walls then, once again crossing Berwick Old Bridge. After returning over the Old Bridge runners will then head back to the Swan Centre and the finish line. Note that the last 1km follows a different route to that used on the first 1km.

The Transition

Transition is sited in the car park adjacent to the pool.
